Cannon
Receives Senior Citizen’s Award

Reston, VA  –  Calling Hugh “Mac” Cannon a “fighter for the elderly,” the head of the 60 Plus Association, a national non-partisan senior citizen’s organization, presented Cannon with his group’s Honorary Guardian of Seniors’ Rights Award.

The Guardian Award is presented to Democrats and Republicans in Congress based on their “senior friendly” voting records. The Honorary Award is given to those running for state and federal office and is based on their views on seniors’ issues.

Jim Martin, President of 60 Plus, at an awards ceremony in Reston thanked Cannon for his pledge to always protect Social Security and Medicare. Martin also cited Cannon’s support to repeal the ‘Death Tax’ which hurts small businesses and farmers across Virginia and the country. “Cannon, running to be the Delegate from Virginia’s 36th District, knows a bad tax when he sees one,” said Martin, “and the Death Tax is as bad as they come!”

Martin said, “I am pleased to present this award to Mac Cannon. He is a tax cutter, protecting the pocket books of senior citizens. 60 Plus calls on nearly 5.5 million seniors for support nationally, with over 129,000 in Virginia, so I believe I can speak on behalf of seniors when I say that they can count on Mac Cannon. Clearly, seniors will have no finer friend in the Virginia House of Delegates than Mac Cannon.”

Previous recipients of 60 Plus Association awards in the Old Dominion include current Reps. Frank Wolf (R-VA) and Eric Cantor (R-VA) as well as former U.S. Senator John Warner (R-VA) and former Rep Tom Davis (R-VA). Others include U.S. Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE) and Rep. Sanford Bishop (D-GA).

The 60 Plus Association is a 1
7-year-old nonpartisan organization working for death tax repeal, saving Social Security, affordable prescription drugs, lowering energy costs and other issues featuring a less government, less taxes approach.  60 Plus calls on support from nearly 5.5 million citizen activists.  60 Plus publishes a magazine, SENIOR VOICE, and a Scorecard, bestowing awards on lawmakers of both parties who vote “pro-senior.”   60 Plus has been called “an increasingly influential senior citizen’s group.”
